Agentic commerce is commerce in which an AI agent acts on behalf of a shopper — discovering, comparing and, when enabled, purchasing products through a conversation rather than a website.
The shopper states an intent (for example, "find running shoes under €100"); the agent queries machine-readable product catalogs, ranks results by relevance to that intent, and can complete checkout and payment inside the AI interface.
The merchant still fulfils the order and owns the customer relationship, but discovery and decision move into the assistant. Its prerequisite is a structured, up-to-date product feed the agent can read.
