A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is a standardised interface that lets AI models and agents connect to external tools and services — for example, to trigger payments, look up orders or query a catalog.
In the agentic-commerce context, providers such as PayPal have released MCP servers so that developers can connect AI agents to commerce and payment capabilities. This is a developer-facing integration path, distinct from the feed-based discoverability that most merchants need first (see Store Sync).
