The Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) is Google's open standard, announced in September 2025, for letting AI agents make payments on a user's behalf, with a broad set of launch partners including PayPal, Mastercard and others.
AP2 focuses on the payment layer of agentic commerce, complementing discovery-and-checkout standards such as Google's Universal Commerce Protocol and OpenAI's Agentic Commerce Protocol.
